The strength of the Christian does not come from the inside. It comes from the outside of the individual. It comes from God. When we seek God in prayer, he answers and always gives us precisely what we need in the moment. So, if you are struggling and weak, get on your knees now Christian!

Tim Challies has a very readable post on his blog at @Challies. He examines a quote from E.M. Bounds, a preacher for the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. Bounds wrote 11 books of which 9 were about prayer. Challies quotes the 19th century Bounds as saying,

“The men who have done the most for God in this world have been early on their knees.”

Every “great” Christian I have known has been a praying person. Time with God is essential to a Christian’s productivity and faithfulness. Imagine a baseball player who never took batting practice! But Challies notes that Bounds emphasized morning prayer because of the freshness of mind and for the effect it will have on the remainder of the day.

“He who fritters away the early morning, its opportunity and freshness, in other pursuits than seeking God will make poor headway seeking Him the rest of the day.”

Two things: make increasing prayer a part of your goals for 2025. And read The Men Who Have Done Most for God in this World at Tim’s blog.
